A WA-based conveyor manufacturer recently purchased a custom-sized, heavy-duty platform scale from AccuWeigh. The platform scale supplied was a 2.4m by 1.2m variation of our standard 1.2m2 A500 pallet scale.

The purchase enabled the manufacturer to weigh rolls of conveyor belts prior to loading them in to a shipping container for sea transport. Although the manufacturer already had several weighing systems they could use, the new Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) laws required that all weight readings were traceable and legal.

Consequently, AccuWeigh supplied the trade-approved, 10,000kg capacity platform scale which complied with all SOLAS requirements.

Being SOLAS-compliant enables the manufacturer to compete on the international stage and remain cost-competitive by performing the weighing traceability in-house rather than using an external third-party. Trade-approval also enables the manufacturer to use this weighing system to charge by weight, should that be necessary.

Because the platform scale is galvanised, made with Australian steel and fitted with four-5 tonne capacity load cells, it represents a robust weighing system that will outlast many other weighing products on the market. The integration with an AccuWeigh IT1000 digital weight indicator, which itself is housed in a stainless steel casing, makes the entire weighing system water resistant and long-lasting.

Using non-trade or low accuracy weighing systems represents a risk for any exporter that now needc to comply SOLAS legislation. Can you afford to take that risk? Download our expert guide to the SOLAS and Certified Container Weights Legislation.
